No offense Steve (pun intended), but only puetzes that have never been in sales (or maybe marketing people) would have ever told you that customers are logical. Some can be swayed by some form of business logic, but to claim they are logical is silly. I've never heard that tenet in any sales training or from a manager or mentor. Regardless, your point is spot on. If someone has this belief they are setting themselves up to fail.

As far as Go Deep goes, I'd agree wholeheartedly, but then most sales people get involved in the sales process when the buyer is way too far along in the buying process. Had they been their earlier maybe the VP of Sales wouldn't have been necessary to shore things up.

I detest the spread offense, but I love your analogy. Well done
